Will a US carry-on fit international flights?
Often not exactly. A 22 in bag is 56 cm, which is 1 cm over the 55 cm limit used by Lufthansa, Ryanair, Air India and many others. Measure your bag with the checker: a small overrun is often allowed, but budget airlines enforce the sizer strictly.
Weight limits are common abroad
Emirates, Qatar, Singapore Airlines, Qantas (international flights) and many Asian budget airlines limit the carry-on to 7 kg (15 lb), while Japanese and Korean airlines allow 10 kg. Air France and KLM allow 12 kg combined for the carry-on and personal item. US airlines usually have no weight limit.
Australia and New Zealand
Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia allow 56 × 36 × 23 cm in economy. Jetstar and Qantas international flights allow 7 kg, Virgin Australia 8 kg in total, and Qantas domestic Economy up to 14 kg in total (10 kg per bag). Jetstar weighs bags at the gate. Air New Zealand uses a total size of 118 cm instead of three separate sides.
