The usual hand luggage size in the UK and Europe is 55 × 40 × 20 cm or 56 × 45 × 25 cm for the overhead locker, plus a small bag of about 40 × 30 × 15 to 20 cm under the seat. Budget airlines charge for the larger bag.

British Airways, easyJet (large bag) and Jet2 allow 56 × 45 × 25 cm. Ryanair priority, Wizz priority, Lufthansa and KLM allow about 55 × 40 × 20 to 23 cm. TUI allows 55 × 40 × 20 cm and 10 kg.

Free vs paid hand luggage

Ryanair, Wizz Air and easyJet include only the small under-seat bag. The larger wheelie bag needs a Priority or bundled fare. BA, Jet2 and TUI include a full-size bag.
