About Carry On Size Checker

Why we built it

Every airline publishes its own bag size limits, in its own units, on a different page, and many of them have changed in the last two years. Travellers end up comparing a suitcase label against a list of numbers, guessing whether the wheels count, and finding out at the gate that the answer was no. A bag that is fine on one airline can cost a gate fee on the next.

We built Carry On Size Checker to replace that guesswork with a clear answer: enter your bag once, and see whether it fits, where it is too big, and how much room is left.

What the checker does

• One airline or all of them. Pick an airline for a detailed yes or no with the margin on every side, or leave it on "all airlines" to see which of the 195 airlines accept your bag and which do not.
• Three bag types. Carry-on (overhead bin), personal item (under the seat) and checked bag, each compared with the right limit.
• The way airlines actually measure. Airlines compare the longest side of your bag with their longest limit, whichever way you hold it. The checker does the same, and you can switch that off if you want a strict side-by-side comparison.
• Total size and weight. Some airlines, such as Singapore Airlines, set a limit on length + width + depth instead of three sides, and many set a weight limit. Both are checked when the airline publishes them.
• Inches or centimeters. Switch units at any time. The checker compares your bag with the limit exactly as it is shown on the page, so typing the published number always fits and anything larger never does.
• Share a result. Copy a link that opens the same bag, airline and result for a friend or travel partner.

Where the numbers come from

Each airline's limits are taken from that airline's official baggage page wherever one exists. Every airline page on the site shows the month it was last reviewed and links to the official source, so you can check it yourself in one click.

• Published vs guideline. Many airlines publish a carry-on size but only describe the personal item as "a small bag that fits under the seat". In those cases (currently 117 airlines for the personal item) we show a conservative guideline and mark it with an asterisk (*) so you know it is not an official number.
• Secondary sources are labelled. For a small number of airlines whose own pages could not be read, figures come from reliable secondary sources and the page says so.
• Airlines that stopped flying (2 so far) are kept for reference with a clear notice and are left out of the all-airline results.
• Fees for 10 US airlines are shown with the date they were checked and a reminder that prices change, because they change often.

How we keep it accurate

Airline rules are not static. Carry-on sizes, weight limits and fare rules are reviewed regularly against the airlines' official pages, and figures are corrected as soon as a change is confirmed. Recent reviews, for example, updated Lufthansa's personal item to 40 × 30 × 15 cm, Emirates' cabin bag to 55 × 38 × 22 cm and Allegiant's carry-on to 22 × 16 × 10 in.

The checker itself is tested against every airline in both units, so that the result on the screen always matches the limit printed next to it. If you spot something out of date, tell us: reports from travellers are one of the best ways we find changes quickly.

Independence and how the site is funded

Carry On Size Checker is not owned by, affiliated with or paid by any airline or luggage brand. Results are calculated only from published limits, and no airline or advertiser can change them. The site is free to use and is supported by advertising, which is shown separately from the checker and our content.

Privacy by design

The checker runs entirely in your browser. The measurements you type are not sent to us and are not stored after you leave the page, and there are no accounts to create. We use Google Analytics to count visits, with consent where the law requires it. Details are in our Privacy Policy.

Who runs the site

Carry On Size Checker is an independent project, operated under the name Carry On Size Checker. We research the airline rules, build and test the checker, keep the data up to date and read every message sent to us.
